Rectangular parts nested across sheet and panel material, with the same waste-reduction approach as Barcut Pro's live 1D optimizer. This capability is planned and in development — it is not available to use yet.
Need cutting optimization today? 1D cutting optimization is live now. Curious how the two actually differ? Read 1D vs 2D cutting optimization.
Cutting plans for flat sheet stock — metal sheet, MDF, plywood, glass, acrylic and similar panel materials.
Rectangular panel parts arranged across available panel sizes, mixing panel sizes the way the 1D optimizer already mixes stock lengths.
Parts laid out to minimize offcut area, respecting practical cutting-method constraints.
Reporting on sheet yield and offcut, the same way the 1D optimizer reports material yield and waste today.
The same core goal as 1D optimization: the fewest sheets/panels used to satisfy a complete parts list.
This list reflects what is currently planned and may change before release. Nothing above is available to use today.
Two-dimensional (2D) cutting optimization, also called sheet nesting or panel cutting optimization, decides how to arrange rectangular (or more complex) parts across sheet or panel stock — such as metal sheet, MDF, plywood, glass or acrylic — so that the fewest sheets are used and the least material is wasted.
Sheet nesting is the layout step in 2D cutting optimization: fitting a set of flat parts onto a sheet or panel as tightly as possible, respecting any cutting-method constraints (such as guillotine-only cuts), so more usable parts come from fewer sheets.
1D (linear) cutting optimization arranges pieces along the length of a bar or profile — only one dimension matters. 2D cutting optimization arranges rectangular or shaped parts across the area of a sheet or panel — both width and height matter, which makes the layout (nesting) problem significantly more complex than 1D.
Not yet. 2D sheet and panel optimization is in development and is not currently available. Barcut Pro’s 1D cutting optimizer (for bars, profiles and linear stock) is live and free to try today. Leave your email below and we’ll send one notification when 2D ships.
